One of the most exciting players ever — and the man who really made Baylor football famous — was Robert Griffin III. The exciting dual-threat quarterback won a list of awards during his time in Waco including the AP Player of the Year Award, a consensus All-American appointment, the Davey O’Brien Award, the Manning Award, and the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.
Of course, the award that meant the most to him and his program was the Heisman Trophy that RG3 won in 2011. He won that award after a season that was simply insane. Griffin completed 72.4 percent of his passes that year for 4,293 yards with 37 touchdowns and only six picks.
As if his ability to carve up defenses with his arm wasn’t enough, RG3 also was able to run through opponents to the tune of 699 yards and 10 more touchdowns. For his career, he had 2,254 yards on the ground and 33 touchdowns and even caught three passes for good measure.
Griffin also boasted some impressive passing numbers, proving he was more than just a fast quarterback. He had 10,366 yards with 78 touchdowns and just 17 picks while completing 67.1 percent of his throws.
After his collegiate career was done, Griffin was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft by Washington. He won the NFL Rookie of the Year as well, but knee issues hurt his effectiveness not long after that.
