Texas Football: Way too early game predictions for 2021 season
Texas Football is hoping a new coaching staff can unlock the potential of a talented roster and compete for the Big 12 championship
Texas football was one of the most interesting teams in the coaching carousel this past offseason. The athletic department came out in support of former head coach Tom Herman, before firing him a few weeks later in favor of Alabama offensive coordinator Steve Sarkisian.
Sarkisian has been the head coach at big-time programs before at both Washington and USC and those came with mixed results. Sarkisian is hoping that spending the past few seasons in Tuscaloosa with Nick Saban has better prepared him for a job with the magnitude of Texas.
Texas at the very least will have a very competent coaching staff, as Sarkisian has assembled a staff with great recruiting capabilities. Some coaches followed Sarkisian from Alabama to Texas, including heralded offensive line coach Kyle Flood. If this new staff is able to lock down the state of Texas, the Longhorns should be able to compete for a championship soon.
As far as the roster goes, there are some established players leaving, but that does not mean that there is no talent in Austin.
Quarterback Sam Ehlinger had an illustrated career and is now off to the NFL, but his potential replacement Casey Thompson showed that he had the talent enough to be a starter in the bowl game vs Colorado, throwing for four touchdowns. in a victory.
Thompson will have the luxury of handing off to former five-star running back Bijan Robinson, who was starting to emerge as one of the best running backs in the country by the end of the season. With a talent like Robinson in the backfield, Sarkisian will have a nice core to build an offense around.
The Longhorns schedule will be defined by two big conference games. The rivalry with Oklahoma in Dallas and a trip to Aimes to face Iowa State. Win one or both games and the Longhorns could be looking at a special season.
Here are my way too early game predictions for Texas’s 2021 season.
