Georgia Football: 3 storylines to follow in spring 2021
After some late season momentum, Georgia football is entering spring practice with as much momentum as anyone in the country.
Georgia entered the 2020 season with the hopes that Wake Forest transfer Jamie Newman would be the answer to the teams quarterback problems and help lead them to the playoff.
With Newman opting out before the season, the hope was that USC transfer JT Daniels would be fully recovered from a knee injury to help the Dawgs contend. Daniels took longer than expected to recover from his injury and Georgia was not able to be as good as expected in 2020. He did not get the start until late in the season, but the Bulldogs seemed to finally look like a contender on offense once he did and this spring is about seeing if that momentum can continue.
The Bulldogs were able to bring in another top class to Athens this spring and combined with the returning talent that Georgia has, it is hard not to imagine the Bulldogs as one of the favorites in the SEC.
Daniels is back for a full season as the starting quarterback and the backfield is loaded with the returns of Zamir White, James Cook and Kenny McIntosh. The receiving corps is deep and fast with George Pickens, Kearis Jackson and Jermaine Burton all back, alongside matchup nightmare Darnell Washington at tight end.
The defense has been one of the best in the country ever since Kirby Smart took over as the head coach in Athens, but this year, the recruiting classes and talent will be challenged. The secondary is replacing several players and the pass is also taking a hit as well. Georgia recruits as well as anyone on defense, but a lot of leadership and experience is no longer there.
Georgia has a chance to be a special team in 2021, but there are questions to answer when spring practice begins on March 16.
Here are three storylines to watch this spring for Georgia football.
