Jackson State Football: 3 takeaways from blowout win over MVSU
By Dante Pryor
3. Jalon Jones showed his full complement of tools against MVSU
In Jackson State’s first two games, Jalon Jones did not throw the ball a lot in either win. He threw fewer than 25 passes in both games. There were flashes of what Jones could do with his legs, but Jones did not run a lot.
Early in this game, Jones played relaxed, poised and in command of the offense. Jones called his number several times on the first two drives of the game. During their run in the first half, Jones began to show the arm talent that made Florida stand and notice.
Jones has always had the physical tools. At 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, the Virginia native has big-time size. Jones has elite athletic tools and today demonstrated the comfort with the offense that Sanders and the offensive staff were looking for.
The completion percentage was the lowest of the season for Jones; that is because the offensive line struggled at times. Jones showed tremendous touch on the deep ball in the pocket and on the run.
This spring is also an audition for Jones. The Tigers are going to play an entire season in the fall. Deion Sanders’ son Sheduer Sanders is waiting in the wings, but Jones’ play will make it challenging for him to make the switch.
