2. Franklin “Mac” McCain III- Cornerback, North Carolina A&T

Mac McCain and Bryan Mills are the two best cornerback prospects in a very long time.  Scouts compare McCain to Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. It would be of little surprise if McCain is a late-round pick and contributes as a rookie as a slot or dime corner. McCain is polished and has the size and skills to play from day one in the NFL.

Though North Carolina A&T did not play this year, McCain — a redshirt senior — has enough tape to show his skills to NFL scouts. Speaking of scouts, they love cornerbacks that are fluid. McCain has fluidity in his hips and shoulders. A twitch athlete, McCain has great burst transitioning well from a backpedal to a dead sprint.

McCain shadows and mirrors receivers well without using his hands, an essential trait when going from college to the professional ranks. McCain is a natural ball-hawk able to get turned around to contest passes without impeding wide receivers.

Scouts can look McCain’s weight at in one of two ways. Either he’s skinny or has a frame with room to fill out more without losing any explosiveness. Though McCain is a natural cover corner, he needs work as a tackler.
