HBCU Football: The top 10 HBCU NFL Draft Prospects
By Dante Pryor
4. Calvin Ashley- Offensive Line, Florida A&M
Calvin Ashley is the type of offensive lineman that you take a later round flyer or sign as a high-priority free agent and develop. Ashley was a five-star recruit coming out of Washington D.C. and the sixth-rated offensive tackle in the country.
Ashley has the frame and the size of an NFL offensive lineman. Ashley has nimble feet and good bend for a young man his size. What is a concern for Ashley is playing in three different programs during his time in college. That did not allow the D.C. native to develop his prominent physical tools.
Upon transferring to Florida A&M, the MEAC decided to cancel its fall season. Instead of returning to Tallahassee next fall, Ashley decided to go to the NFL Draft. Ashley had two starts at Auburn before transferring to Florida Atlantic. Instead of staying in Boca Raton, Ashley moved to FAMU before playing a single down at FAU.
As a result, you have a young man with lots of tools and little game experience. Ashley has all of the tools to be an outstanding NFL offensive lineman but needs to go to a situation where a team is willing to be patient and develop him.
