Notre Dame football is trending for one of the best tight ends in the entire 2022 class in four-star Holden Staes. Will he be the next to commit?

Over the years, Notre Dame has been no stranger to developing elite tight ends and the 2022 class should be no different.

Right now, the Fighting Irish have an up-and-coming star in Michael Mayer (nicknamed “Baby Gronk) on the roster and they’re looking to add more. That could come in the form of four-star 2022 tight end Holden Staes from Atlanta, Ga.

The four-star tight end is ranked the No. 7 at his position in the class and No. 202 overall, according to the 247Sports composite. He’s also the 22nd-best prospect in the talent-rich state of Georgia and he’s been trending toward the Fighting Irish over the past week, picking up three Crystal Balls this week and five since the Irish offered.

Before Notre Dame’s offer back in February, Penn State was looked at as the favorite, but whenever the Irish come to play, things get that much tougher.

Brian Kelly has to be selling his history with tight ends and getting them to the next level and Staes has an athletic 6-4, 230-pound frame that could set him apart in college.

And it’s not like Notre Dame isn’t being pushed by some of the best programs in the country as Alabama, Georgia, LSU, North Carolina, Ole Miss and Texas are also pushing hard for him. The fact that Notre Dame is currently standing out is a sign of the times as the Irish have been to two of the past three playoffs.

Notre Dame is starting to really recruit with the big boys again.
