Prairie View A&M football to pause spring season due to COVID-19

Despite starting their spring season 2-0, Prairie View A&M football is pausing their spring season amid COVID-19 concerns.

The Panthers are off to a 2-0 start this season in the SWAC. However, Prairie View has temporarily paused its season due to COVID-19. As a result, their games against Jackson State and Alabama A&M have been postponed. Make-up dates have not been scheduled for either game.

The school pausing football activities fall in line with the Southwest Athletic Conference and its advisory committee. This development is unfortunate since the Panthers are off to such a good start this spring. A&M opened the season with a 20-19 win against rival Texas Southern.

The Panthers followed that win upsetting the Grambling State Tigers the next week, 17-10. The cancellations halt Prairie State’s momentum, but this could be a blessing in disguise for both the Bulldogs and Tigers.

Alabama A&M they have experienced issues with COVID-19. The Bulldogs have played just one game this season; the Bulldogs postponed their game against Mississippi Valley State amid COVID-19 issues. Alcorn State forfeited all of their games after opting out of the SWAC competition.

Jackson State has played three games in three weeks. Postponing the game gives the Tigers some much-needed rest. Not only have the Tigers played three games in three weeks, but their game against Alabama State is also their fourth in a row.

With the next two games postponed for Prairie View A&M, the Panthers do not possibly play again until they host the Southern University Jaguars on April 10, nearly one month from now.
