Games 1-4

Old Dominion: Win

What the college football world will find out very soon about the Demon Deacons in 2021 is that their out-of-conference slate could be tougher than it actually is. ODU in Winston-Salem is the first example of that. The Monarchs are a lackluster Group of 5 team facing an intense Power 5 offense. Wake should begin their season with a win by three or four scores.

Norfolk State: Win

Half of Wake Forest’s fan base has most likely never even heard of the Norfolk State Spartans, and that should be their first clue that the Deacs will take this one by well over 40 points.

Florida State: Win

Finally, a true challenge. Wake’s conference opener hosting Florida State will be close all throughout, especially with Seminoles head coach Mike Norvell entering his second season with the team, resulting in a stronger grip on it. But Wake Forest should manage to hold on nonetheless, mainly due to their sturdier identity. Such a competitive game will most likely be decided by a single-digit margin.

Virginia: Loss

The Deacons handled Virginia unexpectedly well in 2020, by a score of 40-23. However, the Cavaliers have better coaching with Bronco Mendenhall and will be hosting Wake Forest after their straining FSU battle from the week prior. Well-fought defeat for the Deacs here.
