Notre Dame football is hoping to recreate the same mojo in 2021 as it had in 2020 but it will start with a huge spring.

Notre Dame’s College Football Playoff run a year ago was no fluke. The Irish joined a conference due to COVID-19 for the season and were able to topple Clemson in the regular season before making the ACC title game. The Tigers got revenge, but both teams made the playoff but were each bounced in the semifinal.

The Irish are losing plenty of talent from the 2020 team, starting with Ian Book and trickling all the way down the roster. Book joins guys like Liam Eichenberg, Robert Hainsey, Daelin Hayes and Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah as just a few of the departing stars.

All eyes will be on the quarterback position and the offensive line which will be replacing four starters from last year. Will the offense see success in year two under Tommy Rees?

Jack Coan transferred in from Wisconsin this spring to battle it out for the starting quarterback job but he’ll have to fend off Drew Pyne, Brendon Clark and Tyler Buchner. It’ll be interesting to see this quarterback battle play out this spring.

The Irish do get Kyren Williams, Braden Lenzy, Michael Mayer, Kyle Hamilton and a host of important defenders back this season while bringing in the No. 9 recruiting class in the country.

Can Notre Dame get back to the playoff for the third time in four years?
