There are only two SWAC football games this weekend. Both could have a hand in deciding who plays in the SWAC Championship game.

All roads lead to the SWAC Football Championship on May 1. This weekend might be a light schedule (just two SWAC games this weekend), but this pair of games could influence the winners of the east and west divisions of the Southwest Athletic Conference.

The Alabama A&M Bulldogs host the winless Grambling State Tigers at Lewis Crews Stadium in Huntsville, Alabama. It is just their second game of the season after COVID-19 protocols postponed their games against Mississippi Valley State and Prarie View A&M. A win for the Bulldogs will be their first SWAC football win of the season.

The Alabama State Hornets look to follow their upset victory against the Jackson State Tigers when they travel to Pine Bluff, Arkansas, to clash with the undefeated Arkansas Pine-Bluff Golden Lions. The Hornets, who own the tie-breaker against Jackson State, could notch their second conference win if they can beat one of the best teams in the SWAC this season.

How will these games shape the conference race? Here are three observations about the games and teams playing this weekend.
