SWAC Football: Two games this weekend could decide the SWAC Title
By Dante Pryor
The Bulldogs have not played since March 6 against South Carolina State.
It had been 468 days since the last time the Bulldogs played when they took on South Carolina State. They sputtered early but pulled away late, routing their fellow Bulldogs 31-7. Senior quarterback Aqeel Glass threw three interceptions early but accounted for all of A&M’s touchdowns.
After their win against South Carolina State, A&M expected to play Prarie View A&M. Unfortunately for the Bullgos, that game, along with their season opener against the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils, was canceled. The Bulldogs haven’t played in nearly a month. Will they be rusty when they face Grambling State?
For the Tigers, they might be able to goat Aqeel Smith into some interceptions; one of the weaknesses of Glass’s game is throwing the ball to the other team too often. Tigers quarterback Geremy Hickbottom and the offense have to take advantage of any turnover the Bulldogs offer.
Hopefully, the long time off will not affect Alabama A&M. Expect Glass to attempt to establish a rhythm with his wide receivers early. Grambling has to prove they can cover A&M’s receivers. After getting torched by Skyler Perry and the Golden Lions for 346 yards, the Tigers have to face Glass, who is a legitimate NFL prospect.
The Bulldogs need to avoid the early mistakes. Hickbottom and the Grambling offense have proven they can score points if they can get it going.
