Nearly a week after the Hornets upset Jackson State football, there has been more fallout from the game including where a shoe went.

The fallout from Alabama State’s 35-28 victory still resonates a week later. Here’s hoping the smoke that has arisen between Jackson, Miss., and Montgomery, Ala., leads to a fun interstate rivalry between the Hornets and Tigers.

Though the Hornets have an intense rivalry with their interstate foes, the Alabama A&M Bulldogs, Jackson and Montgomery are not that far apart. Besides, who says that a school can only have one rivalry. Isn’t every game a rivalry game for Notre Dame?

While it is true that Deion Sanders is the primary reason a national television audience got to watch Hornets’ running back Ezra Gray run all over the Tigers defense, these young men did not just learn how to play football. We are just being exposed to them. Even in the postgame presser, Sanders seemed exuberant about the quality of football played.

“That’s why I love HBCU football,” Sanders said after the game. As much as Coach Prime does not want this to be about him, it is. That’s okay because his star power allows others to shine.

As a result, we got a great game last Saturday. We also got some smoke. From the trolling on the scoreboard when the Tigers sealed the game to the hecklers during the Hornet walk, these are the things that make college football fun. Hopefully, this turns into a tremendous interstate rivalry that Alabama/Mississippi never could in the SEC.

Oh, and can someone please return Coach Hill-Ely’s shoe? He left it up someone’s, never mind. Here is more fallout from last week’s game.
