30 best college football quarterbacks of all-time: 12. Landry Jones, Oklahoma football
College stats:
- 16,646 passing yards
- 123 TDs
- 52 INTs
Although he gained the starting quarterback job through a bit of a fluke injury to Sam Bradford, Landry Jones immediately made the Oklahoma Sooners his own.
Sitting back and learning behind Bradford did wonders for Jones as he took off from the very beginning. His first year under center saw him throw for 3,198 yards with 26 touchdowns to go along with 14 interceptions. His completion percentage left much to be desired as it was under 60 percent but all in all, Jones appeared ready to keep the Oklahoma ship safe and steady for years to come.
Things didn’t go as smoothly as he hoped for as he consistently dealt with the possibility of Bradford coming back. However, once he officially left for good for the NFL Draft, Jones would pile up some serious numbers and win some big-time games.
His three subsequent years were unbelievable as he threw for over 4,000 yards in each campaign. Jones was also accurate, slinging the ball around at a clip over 63%. With a Big 12 Championship paired with a BCS Title, Jones proved that his Sooners were incredibly difficult to beat once he was at the helm.
Jones put up monster stats and pushed his team to winning season after winning season. His name will be forever ingrained in the college history books as his 16,646 passing yards rank third all-time. Much like his placement in the annals of college football cannot be questioned, neither can his position on this list.
