College football: 30 best college quarterbacks of all-time
30 best college football quarterbacks of all-time: 9. Marcus Mariota, Oregon football
College stats:
- 10,796 passing yards
- 105 TDs
- 14 INTs
- 2,237 rushing yards
- 66.8 completion percentage
There was nothing Marcus Mariota couldn’t do.
You need a short completion in the middle of the field? No problem. How about a deep bomb down the sidelines? Again, not an issue. What about if all else fails? Don’t worry about it, Mariota could tuck it and run.
It’s difficult to understand where it all went wrong for Mariota on the NFL level. But in terms of college, he was almost as good as anyone ever. Double-digit interceptions were a foreign idea to him. The most he ever threw in a season was six. His 66.8 completion percentage for his career proves how accurate he was as well.
But while he was always very good, he was great during his final year with Oregon. 4,454 passing yards, 42 TDs and, get this, four interceptions, made him virtually unstoppable. As previously mentioned, he also had a good set of wheels on him as he ran for 770 yards and 15 scores. He even caught a 26-yard pass for a touchdown.
Mariota’s trophy room is flooded with awards including the Heisman, Manning and AP Player of the Year awards. His teams rarely saw defeat but he never took them over the hump to bring home a National title. Still, that shouldn’t overshadow what he was able to accomplish in his three years in Oregon.
