30 best college football quarterbacks of all-time: 26. Jameis Winston, Florida State football

College stats:

  • 7,964 passing yards
  • 65 TDs
  • 28 INTs
  • 66 completion percentage

What Jameis Winston was able to accomplish in two full seasons at Florida State, other players couldn’t do no matter how much time they were given.

After redshirting his first year, Winston dominated every team out there. The 4,057 yards he threw for and the 40 touchdown passes were a thing of beauty. His outstanding play was recognized with the Heisman Trophy in 2013 and things were looking promising for him. In addition to the Heisman, Winston also won the Manning Award, Walter Camp Award, Archie Griffin Award and was the AP Player of the Year.

But while his trophy room was filled to the brim, he was still missing the crown jewel. A National title.

Winston would add that final piece to the puzzle the following year, however. Although the end result was exactly what he wanted. Winston struggled considerably. The yards were on par with the year prior with 3,907 but his TDs went from 40 to 25 and his interceptions went from only 10 to a mind-numbing 18.

Still, his overall play allowed him to be named to the First-Team All-ACC and he was named the offensive MVP of the National title game. At the pro level, Winston has been somewhat hit or miss. Be that as it may, in college, Winston was a truly great player.
