25. Ranking every Heisman Trophy Winner: Charles White, USC Trojans football
The USC Trojans football program had produced numerous outstanding running back over the course of their illustrious history, and Charles White is certainly one of them. After exploding onto the scene as a Sophomore, White became an absolutely devastating runner his final two seasons on campus, finishing out his career by winning the 1979 Heisman Trophy, as well as the Maxwell Award and the Walter Camp.
Despite missing some time due to injury, White was as dominant as ever as a senior, averaging over 200 yards per game over the final ten games of the campaign. In addition, he finished out his collegiate career with a bang, rushing for nearly 250 yards against Ohio State in the Rose Bowl, as well as scoring the game-winning touchdown with under two minutes left in the game.
When all was said and done, White had become the No. 2 all-time rusher in NCAA history, was a two-time unanimous All-American selection and twice was named Pac-10 Player of the Year. His final season saw him rush for over 1,800 yards and score 18 touchdowns, as he helped the team to a 10-0-1 record and accomplished so much wearing the USC uniform that the school has since retired his No. 12 jersey.
For his career, the incredibly talented running back racked up over 5,500 rushing yards and found the end zone over 50 times. In 1996, he was enshrined in the College Football Hall of Fame and while his professional career did not yield as much success as his time with the Trojans, he is widely considered one of the best running backs in history.
