College football: Ranking every Heisman Trophy winner

11. Ranking every Heisman Trophy Winner: Baker Mayfield, Oklahoma Sooners football
The story of Baker Mayfield is one that is unlike any other in the history of the Heisman Trophy, as he went from being a walk-on at Texas Tech, where he started immediately as a freshman, to transferring to Oklahoma. The story does not end there, as after Mayfield sat out a year due to transfer rules, he would go on to be a Heisman finalist three times, winning the award finally as a senior in his last chance to do so.
During his time at Oklahoma, Mayfield was a terror for opposing defenses, first by throwing for 3,700 yards as a sophomore, and then by throwing for nearly 4,000 yards as a junior. However, it would be his senior season where he really went off, throwing for over 4,300 yards, leading the Oklahoma Sooners to the College Football Playoff, and then decimating Bryce Love in the Heisman voting.
For Mayfield, the one thing he always showed during his time with the Sooners is supreme confidence, something that rubbed people the wrong way at times. He was even suspended by his coach for a part of a game at one point during his senior season, but he was always considered the leader of the team, and his teammates rallied around him.
Mayfield even was a mentor to Kyler Murray, who stepped into his shoes the next season and would go on to win a Heisman Trophy of his own. Since being the first overall selection in the 2018 NFL Draft, Mayfield has had an up-and-down NFL career, but he recently led his Cleveland Browns to the AFC Divisional Round and appears to be peaking as a pro.
