College football: Ranking every Heisman Trophy winner

9. Ranking every Heisman Trophy Winner: Ricky Williams, Texas Longhorns football
During his time at the University of Texas, Ricky Williams developed a reputation for being one of the more reliable running backs this game has ever seen. In fact, when all was said and done for Williams with the Longhorns, he had rushed his way into the record books, breaking Tony Dorsett’s 22-year record for most rushing yards in a collegiate career.
For Williams, his career got started the same way the only other Longhorn to win a Heisman did, as he was the team’s fullback as a freshman. In that season, Williams shattered Earl Campbell’s freshman record for rushing yards before shifting to halfback and becoming the most prolific running back in NCAA history up until that point.
As a junior, Williams led the nation in rushing, racking up nearly 1,900 yards and 25 touchdowns. He finished fifth in the Heisman voting that season, and entering the 1998 campaign, he was the front-runner to actually win the award. Win the award he did, as he had a monster season, rushing for over 2,100 yards and 27 touchdowns, becoming the only player in college history to win two Doak Walker awards.
Setting 21 NCAA records across his illustrious career, Williams would see the University of Texas retire his No. 34, and New Orleans head coach Mike Ditka traded away a whole draft and some of the next to take him No. 5 overall. He received the highest percentage of first-place votes in Heisman history, capping a historical career in Austin.
