College football: Ranking every Heisman Trophy winner

5. Ranking every Heisman Trophy Winner: Cam Newton, Auburn Tigers football
What a long, strange trip it was for Cam Newton to get to Auburn University, but in his one season with the program, he put together one of the greatest Heisman Trophy seasons of all-time. Newton began his collegiate career at the University of Florida as a backup to Tim Tebow, before redshirting and eventually transferring to Blinn Junior College.
There, Newton led Blinn to a national title, and when it came time for his services after the season, nearly every Division I school came calling. Auburn would be the winners of the Newton Sweepstakes, and luckily for them, he was even better than advertised, leading them to their first national title since 1957.
For Newton, the move to the SEC was no big deal, as he dominated opponents on the ground, and through the air. Newton passed for nearly 2,600 yards for the Tigers, connecting on 28 touchdowns against only six interceptions, as well as over 1,400 yards on the ground with 20 more scores. The Tigers went undefeated in the regular season, won the SEC title game, and beat Oregon in the BCS National Championship Game.
When it came time for the Heisman voting, Newton won in a landslide, capping off his only season at Auburn by becoming the third Heisman winner in program history. He was the SEC Player of the Year, an All-American, and AP Player of the Year, before being the No. 1 overall pick by the Carolina Panthers and becoming an MVP at the NFL level.
