Man has the college football landscape ever changed. Recruiting still takes center stage in the offseason in terms of roster moves, but the transfer portal is picking up some steam.

The transfer portal can make or break a team in the offseason nowadays. A team can add 10-plus transfers and improve from a disappointing season or lost 10-plus guys to the portal and trend in the wrong direction. Momentum can swing in a big way if a program picks up some instant-impact transfers and Notre Dame is no exception.

Notre Dame has added just one transfer this offseason thus far in Wisconsin quarterback Jack Coan and there could be more additions as the spring and summer wear on.

Who should Brian Kelly and the Irish be targeting in the portal this offseason?

Notre Dame is losing fourth-fifths of its offensive line from last season and both starting guards so it only makes sense that the Irish would target someone like Blaine Scott who has great size and could be an instant contributor in the trenches.

Scott may not have seen a ton of action with West Virginia from 2018-20 but he has the size at 6-4 and 310 pounds and he was a highly sought-after prospect in the high school ranks. In fact, he had over two- dozen offers as a high school prospect, and Notre Dame was even on his radar but the Irish never officially extended an offer.

The Irish need some depth up front and while Scott may not be the shiniest toy on the market, he would be a valuable contributor who is just looking for an opportunity.

If nothing else, he’d be good for depth.
