This one would be pretty interesting because what Gator fan wouldn’t want improved secondary play after a disappointing 2020 season defensively?

Maurice Hampton was once considered one of the best high school prospects in the country back in the 2019 class but never really lived up to his full potential at LSU. After a quiet freshman season, he played eight games in 2020 with 27 tackles and two tackles for loss. He looked like he was growing into a prominent role before entering the portal.

Hampton, a Tennessee-native, was actually being recruited by Florida before he committed to LSU, so the familiarity and relationships are already there.

As if that’s not enough, the Gators could definitely use some help in the defensive backfield, especially since they are losing Marco Wilson, Shawn Davis, and Donovan Stiner.

You can bet Todd Grantham is pushing to land a talented defensive back like Hampton who could play both cornerback and safety and has the talent to back it up.
