Notre Dame football is building an impressive 2022 recruiting class and the Fighting Irish are trending with another four-star offensive tackle in Billy Schrauth.

The 2022 recruiting class is an unusual one given the fact that official visits haven’t been allowed to take place yet and it’s gone on during a global pandemic.

Even during all of that, Notre Dame football has been building an elite 2022 recruiting class and as of right now, it ranks fourth overall according to the 247 sports composite rankings.

According to the blue-chip ratio, a recruiting class needs to have at least 50 percent of its recruits ranking as a four-star prospect or higher in order to be a national title contender.

And so far, of Notre Dame’s 12 commitments in 2022, eight of them are rated as four-star recruits according to the 247 sports composite rankings which would put Notre Dame’s blue-chip ratio at 75 percent.

Prior to the 2020 season, the blue-chip ratio for Notre Dame football was 56 percent, which is good enough to be a national title contender, but still on the lower end of the spectrum.

Yet, the Irish have clearly been stepping up their game on the recruiting trail and that run looks like it will continue with four-star offensive tackle Billy Schrauth.

Irish adding another elite 2022 recruit?

Notre Dame football has become known as a factory for really good offensive lineman and the Irish are now trending to add a third four-star recruit at the position in Schrauth.

The 6-foot-5, 285-pound tackle out of Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin, is the 17th-ranked tackle in the 2022 class and the third-best player in his state. He’s ranked 154th overall and would be Notre Dame’s third-highest rated recruit and second on offense.

Schrauth had picked up a pair of crystal ball predictions back in 2020, but in the last week, insiders covering Notre Dame, Wisconsin, and Ohio State have all put in predictions for the lineman to end up with the Irish, which could be due to the fact that he has an official visit scheduled for June.

If Schrauth does end up committing, he would join current Notre Dame commits Joey Tanona and Ty Chan, who both rank in the top 212 overall in the 2022 class. It would also give the Irish three of the top 24 offensive tackles and bump up their blue-chip ratio even higher.
