With a new head coach in Steve Sarkisian, the Texas football program should seek out some elite talent in the transfer portal.

Now that spring football is happening and concluding across the country, it’s a perfect time to start thinking about the transfer portal again. Texas football is one team that makes a lot of sense, especially with a new head coach in place.

Early in the offseason, Texas football was fairly active in the transfer portal and added some defensive players early on. But there is still some really elite talent in the portal and more is added by the day, including a former four-star recruit who could interest the Horns.

While Texas doesn’t lack for talent after Tom Herman recruit some highly-ranked classes, they haven’t also lived up to the billing. Besides, addressing needs in the transfer portal is going to become the norm and here are three transfers Texas should target.

Max Wray, Offensive Tackle Ohio State

Going back to high school, Max Wray was a high-ranking four-star recruit and was No. 121 overall in the 2021 class according to the 247 sports composite rankings.

He committed to Ohio State but the Buckeyes have had some incredible talent ahead of him on the offensive line and he only started one game.

Wray has three seasons of eligibility left. He’s also 6-foot-7, 308 pounds and would help fill a need for depth along the offensive line.

Texas football lost some talent to the NFL draft and some depth to the portal. Wray is from Tennessee and had a crystal ball projection to Alabama during the recruiting process.

So a team in the south could make sense and it would be a nice addition for the Longhorns.
