Northwestern Wildcats, 7-2

The test for the Wildcats is to learn how to exist after losing such a high number of NFL-caliber prospects leaving next season. We know two things about the Wildcats in the Pat Fitzgerald era. First, Fitzgerald gets the most out of his players, and the Wildcats seem to play well when everyone counts them out.

Though Wisconsin and Minnesota are favored to have bounce-back years, do not count out Northwestern. Here are three players who can help the Wildcats next season.

  • Jordan Mosely, WR: Jordan Mosley is the highest-rated recruit the Wildcats signed this season. Mosely is a steady, reliable pass-catcher who can play either in the slot or wide. Mosley upgrades an average receiving corps who should start early. Mosley is aggressive with the ball in his hands and can run past people in the open field. Mosely could come in early and be one of Northwestern’s best playmakers.
  • Ryan Hilinski (Transfer), QB: Hilinski’s signing means that Hunter Johnson is on the outs in Evanston two years after transferring from Clemson. Hilinski gives the Wildcats a  proven starter with NFL upside, something they have not had since Clayton Thorson. Hilinski can make every throw in the book and should pair greatly with incoming freshman receiver Jordan Mosley. If Hilinski’s waiver comes through, he’s the day one starter.
  • Jeremy Meiser (Transfer), DT: Meiser is a solid, experienced veteran who gives the Wildcats depth along a defensive line that is thin as far as depth. Meiser is not an elite athlete, but he is the type of player that Fitzgerald love. Meiser has a non-stop motor with a most for football. Meiser will fit right in with the Wildcats.
