College football’s all-name team is comprised of 25 of the best names in the history of the game.

College football has been around for over 150 years and has been played by individuals of all kinds of different heritages and backgrounds. Chances are that a few of them are going to have some pretty unique sounding names. These are the guys who if perhaps not memorable for their plays on the field, at least will be remembered for the names on the back of their uniform.

When creating this list, I tried to come up with as many that I could off the top of my head while also going back through some fan favorites. With so many players to choose from, I also thought there needed to be some ground rules.

First, the player must have made enough of a contribution on the field to be considered. I didn’t want to list guys who might have great names but were the third-string punter on their team.

Next, I only wanted to include those who had played in the FBS or what was considered to be major college football during their time. Sorry, Kobe Buffalomeat from Illinois State.

I also tried to stay away from players who made their names in the NFL unless they were also well-known as college football players during their time. For example, a guy like Johnny Unitas, who had a pretty cool name in his own right, is almost exclusively known as an NFL player.

Finally, I wanted to avoid nicknames unless their nickname is basically used in place of their real name. This required some discretion, but if you can’t tell me what their real first name is, then I feel like they should make the list.

I think that should be about it. Of course, when it comes to determining a “best of all-time” list, such things are completely subjective, which is to say that I’m unquestionably right. However, if you feel like I left any names out, feel free to mention them in the comments.
