Herm Edwards has done a heck of a job at Arizona State in the few years that he’s been in charge which has been a surprise to just about everyone. No, it’s not because people didn’t think he was a good coach, but going from the NFL to college is usually a huge adjustment.

The Sun Devils have been relevant since he’s been in town and that shouldn’t change any time soon as long as he keep replacing talent with even more.

Edwards needs to hit the portal harder though if he wants to keep up with the rest of the Pac-12.

Who should the Sun Devils target in the transfer portal this offseason?

I was going to put Antonio Alfano who was once the No. 1 recruit in the country and committed to Alabama before leaving and being with Colorado for a season, but he’s going the JUCO route at Independence C.C. to get his career back on track.

James Sylvester may not have been recruited by Arizona State, but it would be bad to add talented depth along the defensive line. He was one of the best defensive ends in the 2020 class.

The 6-4, 225-pound defensive end has elite potential and his athletic frame will help him out in the Pac-12 against smaller offensive lines. He was the No. 312 overall recruit and 16th-best weak-side defensive end in the 2020 recruiting class, per 247Sports.

Sylvester would be a solid addition here and if the Sun Devils want to wait until next offseason to add a transfer end, Alfano would be available, assuming he does well off the field at ICC.
