The rest of the college football world better watch out, because it looks like the Texas football program finally has a legit head coach.

Texas football hasn’t been a threat on the national stage in years. It certainly wasn’t a factor under Tom Herman and hasn’t been since Mack Brown and Colt McCoy.

But under Steve Sarkisian, that looks like it’s about to change, especially if the Longhorns start adding more recruits like the one they landed Saturday — Xavier Worthy.

If you are a Texas football fan and you don’t know who Worthy is, you are about to get really excited. Think the next Desean Jackson, except he’s not 5-foot-10.

Worthy is 6-foot-1, 160 pounds and he’s an incredible track athlete. He’s a legitimate speedster and even at No. 61 overall in the 2021 recruiting class, he’s one of the most underrated prospects in the country.

The fact that Texas football just landed his commitment is a boon — a major one.

Just last week, Worthy was a Michigan football signee. He signed with the Wolverines during the early period after a back-and-forth recruitment that saw Oregon and Alabama make serious runs at him.

However, he chose Michigan football on signing day, although Sark, Alabama’s OC at the time, and the Crimson Tide were a close second.

It seemed to be a done deal, but due to some weird circumstances, Worthy was unable to enroll early at Michigan as he wanted, and finally, last week, he asked out of his letter of intent.

What Worthy additions means for Texas football

Texas football was the clear favorite once Worthy re-opened his recruitment but you wondered how much Alabama, Georgia, and other previous contenders might push for the 4-star receiver.

Yet, it’s clear that one of the big draws to Alabama was Sarkisian and why not after all the things Alabama receivers have done the past few years.

No doubt, Sark told Worthy he could help him become a first-round draft pick and if it was Xavier, I would probably be inclined to believe him.

If there’s one thing Sark knows how to do, it’s taking advantage of speed and talent. He probably doesn’t have quite the talent level at Texas as he wants, but getting guys like Worthy will help, and in terms of landing big-time recruits, I have a feeling it’s just a start.
