SWAC Football: 3 reasons Alabama A&M will win 2021 conference title
By Dante Pryor
1. Aqeel Glass will be the best player on the field Saturday
In the movie The Replacements, coach Jimmy McGinty (Gene Hackman) tells quarterback Shane Falco (Keanu Reeves): “Winners want the ball.”
In any big game situation, coaches want their best players to want the ball.
Aqeel Glass is that type of player. Glass is a winner, and he wants the football. The 6-foot-5 quarterback from St. Louis has propelled the Bulldogs to heights not seen in Huntsville in a decade.
Glass is the best player by far; all eyes will be on the senior quarterback. Glass, however, is no stranger to the pressure to perform. Alabama A&M’s last two games have been on national television, a first for Glass and the Bulldogs.
Glass responded in kind with back-to-back stellar performances. Against Jackson State, Glass threw for 440 yards and a career-high six touchdowns. The following week against interstate rivals, the Alabama State Hornets, Glass showed out once again.
After a sluggish start, Glass threw for 372 yards and three touchdowns. Glass has already proven an ability to shine when the spotlight is brightest, and the spotlight will firmly be on Glass in this game.
If the game is close, expect Glass to influence late; if it is a blowout, it is because Glass has put in another career day.
