2021 NFL Draft: Falcons add elite offensive weapon in Kyle Pitts
The Falcons decided to stick with the fourth pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and did not take a quarterback. The Falcons opted to take a player who many consider to possibly be the best player in the entire draft in tight end Kyle Pitts.
He is considered a generational talent at the tight end position and his incredible size, athleticism, and playmaking ability should make him an instant impact player in Atlanta.
Pitts put together one of the best seasons that we have ever seen from a collegiate tight end and it earned him a finish in the top ten of Heisman voting, which is rare air for a tight end. At 6-foot-6, 250 pounds, Pitts has incredible athleticism for a guy of that size and is a mismatch anywhere that you put him. in 2020, Pitts caught 43 passes for 770 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2020 and was just a problem for defenses on every snap.
The Falcons opted to give quarterback Matt Ryan another weapon instead of draft their quarterback of the future. I think that Ryan still has some really good football ahead of him, but the opportunity cost of losing out on a potentially elite, young quarterback could be huge and that could be something that hangs over the franchise.
Grade: A
I really like this pick for the Falcons. New head coach Arthur Smith loves to utilize tight ends and you can expect to see plenty of formations that use multiple tight ends and the Falcons should have one of the best offenses in the league with Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, Hayden Hurst, and now Kyle Pitts. Expect Pitts to be an instant impact player and a guy that Falcons fans will love for years to come.
