Ja’Marr Chase will catch passes from his former college teammate in the NFL after going fifth overall in the 2021 NFL draft.

It was obvious for Cincinnati to take Penne Sewell here. Here is “the case for Chase.” There is tackle value in the second round. Ja’Marr Chase is special. Many people forgot about Chase because he opted out this season.

Chase’s sophomore season, LSU’s national championship season, was the best in Tiger history. So who threw him the ball? Joe Burrow. The Bengals need to address offensive tackle. Reily Reif is serviceable but not a long-term answer at tackle.

The Bengals draft at the top of the second round and can find plenty of value at tackle there. Alex Leatherwood from Alabama could fall to the second round because of the run on quarterbacks early.

So why not Sewell here?

Penne Sewell has Anthony Munoz-like potential in the NFL; however, Sewell has not played many snaps and is young. Sewell is young, a raw, super talented offensive tackle, but it is debatable whether or not the former Oregon Duck is plug-and-play from day one.

The Bengals need an impact player, and Chase alongside Tee Higgins could be special.

What the Bengals get in Chase.

Chase is a big receiver with a wide catch radius. The LSU stand-out high points the ball and uses his hands; Chase does not cradle the ball with his body. Chase has elite speed to take the top off a defense or take an 8-yard slant and turn it into a long touchdown pass.

Burrow and Chase have instant chemistry because of their past at LSU as well. However, Chase was the top receiver prospect in this draft, and the Bengals needed to add weapons to their offense for Burrow to flourish.

Expect big things from Chase in Cincy.
