2021 NFL Draft: Trevor Lawrence will make Jaguars relevant again
There were about 0.2 seconds of suspense as the 2021 NFL Draft began on Thursday night and the Jaguars were officially on the clock. Everyone knew who they were taking and it was just a matter of how long they would wait until officially getting Trevor Lawrence’s name in.
Urban Meyer got his franchise quarterback in year one and he has to feel especially lucky because many believe that Lawrence is the best prospect in a decade.
The short-lived Gardner Minshew era is over and Meyer will get a crack at an overhaul of the roster and it’s going to start with the most important position on the field. Lawrence is the type of player Meyer will need to make the turnaround easier because he looks NFL-ready from day one and could be this year’s Justin Herbert-type of breakout rookie.
Lawrence is going to make the Jaguars relevant again.
Trevor Lawrence is going to do big things in Jacksonville
It’s been four years since the Jaguars last made the playoffs. A lot of the struggles have had to do with coaching but the lack of incoming talent was also an issue.
Lawrence immediately upgrades the quarterback position and if Jacksonville can build the offense around him, he’s going to lead the franchise back to the playoffs within the first couple of years. He has some talented weapons at his disposal and the Jaguars have another pick later in the first round to maybe take a running back or receiver to help out.
Jacksonville has just one 10-win season since 2008 but Lawrence is good enough to change that in his first couple of years. He passed for over 10,000 yards in three years with Clemson and won a national title. He made few mistakes with just 17 interceptions in over 1,100 career attempts.
Urban and Lawrence will be a winning combination.
