Notre Dame Football: How did 32 teams pass on Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah?
Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah went four hours without hearing his name called by Roger Goodell on Thursday night. Thirty-two teams passed on him which was shocking because he was a mid-to-late first-round prospect and it just seemed like a matter of time that he’d get scooped up.
Teams in need of a linebacker continued to pass on him like the Giants, Raiders, and Saints.
The Notre Dame star was coming off a huge season, recording 62 tackles, 11 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, an interception, three pass breakups, and three forced fumbles. He improved his stock in his second full season with the Fighting Irish and looked to be safely in the first-round range.
Now that the first round is in the books and Owusu-Koramoah is still on the board, one lucky team is going to make out like bandits and take home two first-round talents in as many rounds.
Where could Owusu-Koramoah go on Day 2?
Landing spots for the Notre Dame football star
If it were up to me, Owusu-Koramoah wouldn’t fall any further than the first pick of the second round, but that’s not exactly realistic — or is it?
Looking at the order of the beginning of the second round, the Jaguars probably won’t take him at No. 33 overall because they have plenty of bigger needs. Sure, they could go with best available but they may be wiser to go with an offensive tackle like Teven Jenkins.
After the Jaguars, there’s the Jets, Falcons, and Dolphins. Out of that trio, only the Dolphins have a major need for a linebacker and I could see him landing in Miami.
If Miami passes for some reason, the Eagles, Bengals, Panthers, Broncos, Lions, and Giants all need a linebacker and they make up the six picks following the Dolphins.
I don’t see Owusu-Koramoah falling pass the 42nd pick but realistically, he shouldn’t even be there by No. 40. One team is going to be very lucky on Friday night.
