2. Payton Turner, No. 28 to the Saints

This was one of the bigger surprises of the first round in the draft last Thursday. The Saints had a lot of needs for the players that either retired or were cut because of the salary cap situation that New Orleans has found themselves in.

I thought that receiver and corner were bigger needs for the team and that would be the direction that they would go. They opted to select Houston defensive end Payton Turner, who was thought by most to be a second-round prospect and a raw player.

The Saints could use some pass rush with the departure of Trey Hendrickson, but with Marcus Davenport and Cameron Jordan still on the roster, it would have made more sense to go in another direction. Even if the Saints really wanted a pass rusher, there were better players on the board for them to select.

Turner has some upside, but there is a very low floor here for the Houston pass rusher.
