A week after having yet another tight end drafted, Notre Dame football picked up a commitment from another four-star tight end and future NFL draft prospect.

Tommy Tremble was selected in the third round by the Panthers, marking the fourth straight draft with a Notre Dame tight end selected. He followed up Durham Smythe in 2018, Alize Mach in 2019, and Cole Kmet in 2020. It’s rare to see that type of success from the tight end position and Notre Dame is truly making that case to be “Tight End U” — look out, Stanford.

On Saturday, the Fighting Irish landed four-star Atlanta, Ga., native Holden Staes just a few months after decommitting from Penn State.

And this just shows that Notre Dame can essentially land any tight end recruit it wants because of the success they have had at the position under Brian Kelly.

As if Staes isn’t enough, the Irish have one of the best young tight ends in the country in Michael Mayer (or “Baby Gronk”) returning for his sophomore season along with four-star Cane Berrong on campus as a former four-star and early enrollee with the 2021 class.

Notre Dame truly is Tight End U.

Tight End U may not be a contest anymore

Landing another four-star tight end and having four straight drafts with a tight end selected, Notre Dame is basically putting a monopoly on the position.

Sure, we hear all about programs like Stanford, Wisconsin, and Penn State when it comes to elite tight ends at the collegiate level, but Notre Dame just takes the cake. In his 11 years at Notre Dame, Brian Kelly has had eight tight ends drafted. There have only been three drafts when the Irish didn’t have a tight end selected under Kelly.

Staes will be another great addition to the tight end room along with Mayer and Berrong and the Irish are only going to continue to dominate the position for years to come.
