Oklahoma Football: Top 3 Prospects for the 2022 NFL Draft
Spencer Rattler – Quarterback
With several schools selling themselves as one of the top programs for developing NFL stars for the wide receiver or defensive backs, it is fair to say that Oklahoma has become QBU.
The Sooners have developed some of the top-tier quarterback prospects in the past NFL Drafts. Mayfield and Murray were prime examples as they are first overall picks. Even Jalen Hurts, a second-round in the 2020 NFL Draft, is setting a good as well. All three quarterbacks, barring injury in the offseason, will regular-season day one starter in the 2021 NFL season.
There is one more quarterback that looks to be even better than all three quarterbacks. Redshirt sophomore quarterback Spencer Rattler is primed to be the best and most explosive quarterback for the Sooners in many years. All three quarterbacks in Mayfield, Murray, and Hurts were former transfer quarterbacks that have been developed into superstars by head coach Lincoln Riley. Rattler is a player that started his career at Oklahoma and has been groomed by coach Riley.
In his first season as a starter last year, Rattler passed for 3,031 yards, 28 touchdowns, seven interceptions, and a quarterback rating of 172.6 on 214 completions (out of 317 passing attempts). Rattler also rushed for 160 yards and six touchdowns that he played and started in Oklahoma last season. In eight of the 11 games last season, Rattler accumulated a completion percentage of at least 64%.
Rattler is one of the top quarterback prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft due to his superior athleticism, high-power arm, and great accuracy.
There is a high probability that Rattler might become the #1 overall pick due to the recent track record of Sooners as number one picks and how the Houston Texans are the team expected to take Rattler over Howell.
If selected first overall, Rattler would be the seventh Sooner drafted with the first overall pick and the fourth at the quarterback position. Rattler would join Mayfield, Murray, and Sam Bradford (2008).
