The Grambling State football team added two former FBS players to their roster.

After Grambling State football coach Broderick Fobbs hired new offensive coordinator/quarterback’s coach Eric Marty this week, he got the new coach some help for the offense from the transfer portal.

Former Kent State offensive interior lineman Tyler Thomas and former UCF tight end Tony Forest, Jr. will join the Grambling State football roster this fall.

These transfers come after the Tigers lost quarterback Geremy Hickbottom early this spring, and running back Justin Richard entered the portal soon after the season.

The addition of Thomas helps improve an offensive line that struggled this spring. It was more than obvious the Tigers missed David Moore in the trenches this spring. As a result, Grambling’s offensive line was dominated most of the spring.

At 6-foot-4 and 290 pounds, Thomas gives the Tigers both size and athleticism on the interior of the Tigers’ offensive line.

Grambling’s offensive line gave up at least two sacks in every game this spring, including five sacks against Southern and six against Prairie View A&M. Thomas gives the Tigers a versatile interior lineman. He can play both guard and center.

Former UCF tight end Tyler Thomas gives the Tigers the type of player that fits what offensive coordinator Eric Marty wants to do offensively. Marty wants to run a multiple tight-end set out of the shotgun, so the Tigers need as many tight ends as possible.

Thomas is a natural pass-catching tight end who can line up next to the tackle or line up in the slot and even out wide. Thomas gives Marty and his new offense a versatile tight end that can threaten the seam or boundary.

While head coach at Reedly Junior College, Marty led one of the most potent rushing attacks in the Northern California Football Alliance. The Tigers will have something they did not have this spring, an identity.
