A week after adding a new offensive coordinator, Grambling State football coach Broderick Fobbs is looking for a new cornerback coach.

The Grambling State football program has had its fair share of tumult this spring. The Tigers had a large part of their spring season upended because of COVID-19, and two offensive coordinators resign. In addition, Star player Geremy Hickbottom transferred before the Bayou Classic, and the confusion left the program reeling.

Last week, it seemed as if things were turning around in northern Louisiana when the Tigers hired a new offensive coordinator. Head coach Broderick Fobbs hired Eric Marty as the new offensive coordinator and quarterback’s coach.

More from Saturday Blitz

Marty comes to the Grambling State football team after serving Reedly Junior College as its head coach for the last four years. When Marty got to Reedly, they were on probation and in desperate need of a rebuild. So Marty steadily rebuilt the Reedly football program.

Marty’s first year in central California, the Tigers went 1-9 and 4-6 in year two. By Marty’s third season, Reedly was undefeated and lost in the NCFC championship game. Reedly would go 20-2 Marty’s last two seasons.

Hopefully, Marty can bring stability to an offensive coaching staff that saw two offensive coordinators leave within weeks of one another, with Fobbs taking over play-calling duties.

Grambling State still looking for a Cornerbacks coach

Eight days after Marty’s hire, cornerbacks coach Travis Makauskas leaves Grambling State football to become the offensive coordinator of a high school in Miami. The former grad assistant at Grambling had these words:

“Words can’t describe how thankful my wife and I are for Grambling State University,” Makauskas said. “Coach Fobbs is the best leader and developer I have ever seen or been around. It was truly (an) honor GramFam, and I will always support my and the bests HBCU in the nation.”

Makauskas joins the staff at True North Classical Academy in Miami, Florida, joining a team run by his old college coach Greg Laferre.
