Notre Dame football’s 2022 recruiting class is currently ranked fourth in the country but it could soon find itself in the top three.

For a few days, crystal balls have been rolling in for Notre Dame in regards to top-100 linebacker recruit Jaylen Sneed from Hilton Head Island, S.C. He currently has eight crystal ball predictions on 247Sports and all of them favor the Fighting Irish.

The Irish already have 13 commits in their 2022 class as Brian Kelly has been fairly active in this cycle as most programs don’t even have double-digit verbal pledges yet.

Adding a 14th in the form of the No. 73 overall prospect in the class as well as the sixth-best outside linebacker, per 247Sports, would be a massive victory. Especially considering who the Irish are duking it out with. Oregon, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Texas A&M are all high on his list, but Notre Dame is currently the favorite.

This is quite the development as Notre Dame just offered a few months ago and the Irish are already on top of his list and he’s scheduling an official visit in June.

Notre Dame football pushing for top 2022 class

When you think of the top recruiting classes in the country every year, the programs that usually come to mind are Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, and Georgia.

Notre Dame is usually an afterthought but in recent years, the Irish are making moves.

Kelly has seen that he’s still behind in terms of overall talent to the rest of the playoff teams after getting shellacked in 2018 and then again in 2020. By landing a top-10 class in 2021 and on his way to a potential top-five group in 2022, he’s catching his team up in talent level.

Notre Dame already has 13 commitments and seven are ranked in the top 250 of the composite and Sneed would make it eight while also being the top-ranked pledge.
