Wake Forest Demon Deacons: Bill George, LB

If there was going to be a player on this list that nobody had ever heard of, it was most likely going to be Bill George, as he retired in the mid-to-late 1960s without having the impact of the aforementioned Jim Brown. However, that should not take away from his accomplishments as a total stud on the Chicago Bears defense.

George was the 23rd overall pick in the 1951 NFL Draft, coming out of Wake Forest as a player who was clearly acknowledged as a force to be reckoned with. However, how well-praised can Wake Forest players possibly be, especially back then?

Throughout his professional career, though, George’s play really picked up some speed, as he hung it up with eight Pro Bowl selections, along with eight first-team All-Pro selections and an NFL Championship in 1963.

The Bears have fortunately been very efficient with addressing George’s contribution to the franchise since his time with them, retiring his #61 and listing him as one of the 100 Greatest Bears of All-Time.
