Big 12 Football: 5 dark horse candidates for 2021 Heisman

Another sophomore that’s a dark horse Heisman candidate in the Big 12 is Marvin Mims. After some up-and-down quarterback play to start the 2020 season, the Sooners ironed things out and averaged 45 points per game during their eight-game win streak.
I don’t want to compare Mims to the most recent Heisman Trophy winner, but that might be the standard for a player at his position now.
What did it take for DeVonta Smith, the 2020 Heisman winner, to receive the award? Just 117 catches,1,856 receiving yards, and 24 touchdowns. No big deal…right?
Mims has a ways to go to achieve that type of success, but in a Lincoln Riley-coached offense that’s steered by Heisman-favorite Spencer Rattler, the potential is certainly reachable.
After leading the Sooners in receptions (37), receiving yards (610), and touchdowns (9) as a freshman, Mims will earn more than just a second-team All-Big 12 nod in 2021 if he’s able to continue his upward trajectory.
