10. Texas Tech Red Raiders

Tyler Shough (Transfer), QB:

With the departures of both Jett Duffey and Alan Bowman via the transfer portal, Duffey to Hampton, and Bowman to Michigan, the Red Raiders had a huge void in their quarterback room. The Red Raiders to return Henry Colombi, who Matt Wells recruited at Utah State, but no much else.

True freshman Behren Morton is as good a freshman Texas Tech has had in Lubbock since Graham Harrell. However, Colombi could not keep the job last season, and Morton is still a freshman. All signs are pointing toward a quarterback competition now that Oregon transfer Tyler Shough is in the mix.

Shough began the season as Oregon’s starter over Boston College transfer Anthony Brown. Both were consolation prizes considering the Ducks wanted Jamie Newman from Wake Forest. However, Shough could not keep his job at Oregon and began splitting time with Brown.

The Red Raiders have two quarterbacks who could not hold on to their starting jobs last season and a super talented true freshman. Shough has the most experience, so bet on him starting game one, unless Morton takes the job.

Shough starting the season as QB1 makes sense until the staff is confident Morton is ready.
