Texas A&M Football: Isaiah Spiller poised for breakout 2021 season
Texas A&M football has high expectations for the 2021 season. The defense is going to be good, maybe even great. But they’ll be breaking in a new quarterback and several new pieces on the offensive line. With another matchup with Nick Saban and Alabama looming midseason, reestablishing consistency on offense will be a priority.
Enter Isaiah Spiller.
One of the most talented running backs in the nation, Spiller will be the lynchpin for the Aggies’ offense in 2021. The third-year running back averaged 5.5 yards per carry last season and scored nine touchdowns, crossing the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his career.
For Spiller in 2021, 1,000 yards seems like the floor. He’ll be the focal point of the offense as he works toward his own personal aspirations alongside the program’s longstanding goals.
Spiller enters the season as one of the Aggies’ most highly coveted NFL Draft prospects. Tankathon has Spiller tabbed as the No. 1 running back in the 2022 class. Pro Football Network had Spiller atop their list as well. The Draft Network projected Spiller as a first-round pick in their way-too-early 2022 mock draft. No matter who you ask, Spiller’s ceiling as a prospect is tantalizing. That’s what makes his 2021 campaign all the more important on the field.
If Spiller can reaffirm those lofty opinions and perhaps silence some doubters, he has the potential to elevate both his stock and the fortunes of Texas A&M football. The Aggies have big goals. So does Spiller. And in the months to come, he’ll have the chance to fulfill all of them.
