MAC football has some great helmets, while the Independents feature some of the most legendary.

The Mid American Conference has been through its fair share of changes over the years. Teams have come and gone, but one of the constants is that MACtion is always fun to watch. It doesn’t hurt that the conference features some great-looking uniforms.

The MAC doesn’t have any real national powers within the conference, although they’ve produced a few New Year’s Six/BCS busters in Northern Illinois and Western Michigan.

The independents, on the other hand, aren’t a real conference but feature three household names in college football: Army, Notre Dame, and BYU. They also have a few up-and-comers with a couple of constant bottom feeders as well. It all evens out.

This week, the twelve MAC schools and seven independents are the focus of the helmet game. Again, NationalChamps.net’s  Helmet Project is the reference I use, so please follow along there as well for visual aid. Also, I’d love your opinions and whether you agree or disagree. Let me know on Twitter @SonnyMartinezFS.

We start off with the MAC.
