One day after Daylen Baldwin transfers out, Joshua Lanier transfers to Jackson State football.

Jackson State football adds another Power Five player to its roster. Head coach Deion Sanders and his staff continue to make changes and add depth to the Tigers’ roster after a spring season that saw them lose their last three contests. Their latest addition to the roster is Alabama wide receiver Joshua Lanier.

Lanier was a walk-on who transferred from North Alabama, who converted from cornerback after being recruited as an athlete. While in high school in Tuscaloosa, Lanier played quarterback, halfback, receiver, cornerback and safety.

Don’t be too caught up with the Tigers simply signing a former walk-on. After Lanier put his name in the portal, he smartly put a video of his performance in spring practice, and Lanier put on quite the show against some of Alabama’s defensive backs.

Lanier posted “serving a purpose bigger than myself” on his Instagram account.

Jackson State was not the only suitor for the 5-foot-11 wide receiver. Utah, Louisiana Tech, Louisiana-Monroe, and James Madison were all after the services of Lanier. The Tuscaloosa native is now another target for quarterback Sheduer Sanders this fall.

Daylen Baldwin heads to the portal

Before Lanier announced his transfer to JSU, leading spring receiver Daylen Baldwin announced that he was transferring. Baldwin was a bright spot for the Tigers’ offense this spring but likely saw a crowded receiving room.

This spring, Baldwin caught 27 passes for 540 yards and seven touchdowns. Baldwin’s 27 receptions tied Corey Reed Jr. for the team lead.

Despite an impressive spring, Jackson State looks to be stacked at wide receiver this fall. In addition to Reed, Jr., Warren Newman returns, Keith Corbin transfers in from Houston and Shane Hooks comes in from Colorado. Also, true freshmen Aalah Brown and Trevonte Rucker are talented young receivers.
