West Virginia Football, Arizona State battle it out for 4-star QB
Four-star quarterback recruit Nicco Marchiol’s recruitment has had a bunch of twists and turns, but as of now, West Virginia football and Arizona State are the favorites.
One of the wildest recruitments in the class of 2022 belongs to four-star quarterback Nicco Marchiol, who has had five different schools projected to get his commitment, including West Virginia football which is the new favorite.
Marchiol is a four-star quarterback from Chandler, Arizona and early on in his recruitment, he was predicted to Michigan. Then, he wound up committing to Florida State, but the Seminoles brought in another quarterback, which eventually led to Marchiol opening things back up again on June 2.
At 6-foot-2, 216 pounds, the left-handed quarterback is ranked 290th overall in the 2022 class and is 23rd among quarterbacks. He’s also one of the top signal-callers still available.
That has made him a priority for a number of programs as they try to fill their quarterback spot for this recruiting class. This month, Marchiol has taken visits to Michigan State and West Virginia football.
At one time, the Spartans had a crystal ball projection for Marchiol, but that’s now been flipped to Arizona State, a school pushing hard for the in-state QB.
Marchiol is the fourth-ranked recruit in the state of Arizona in 2022, so you can bet that Herm Edwards and company want to land him badly. He’s also taking a visit there this weekend, which is probably the biggest threat left to the Mountaineers who have gotten some significant crystal ball predictions of their own for Marchiol in recent days.
The latest crystal ball movement for Nicco Marchiol
Arizona State picked up three crystal ball picks in the days following Marchiol’s decommitment from Florida State. Yet, following his visit this past weekend, Steve Wiltfong of 247 sports logged a crystal ball prediction for the Mountaineers. Two other experts also put in crystal ball projections but the average confidence level is five.
That’s probably because it’s hard to have confidence at this point with everything that has transpired. Five different programs have at one time or another been considered the leader and with a big official visit left, a lot can change.
This weekend will be telling though. If Arizona State can knock it out of the park on its visit then the Sun Devils might just pull it out.
Right now, Wiltfong, a top national analyst sees the Mountaineers winning out. Others are starting to see it that way too, but there is still a long way to go.
