You play to win the game. Herm Edwards said it himself.

Sometimes you have to play dirty.

Arizona State football may be suffering from the consequences of playing to win in a dirty way as more is coming out about violations in Tempe over both the COVID-19 dead period as well as other broken recruiting rules.

The earliest developments have been about Arizona State hosting recruits during the dead period and being in face-to-face contact which is clearly against the rules. They had been hosting prospects for visits when no other schools were allowed to do so.

But apparently, that’s just the tip of the iceberg in Tempe.

“MAJOR recruiting violations” and concern about the staff being able to coach the upcoming season? Yeah, that’s probably not the best news for the Sun Devils.

Edwards had been doing a solid job with Arizona State when no one really gave him a chance to succeed with the Sun Devils and now we might know why that was. Had he been cheating this whole time to help turn the program around? If so, that will likely end his coaching career and send him off to retirement earlier than expected.

Arizona State football likely not the only potentially dirty program

Are we really going to sit here and act like Arizona State possibly breaking major recruiting violations is the worst college football has to offer? I mean, there are some programs running college football right now that everyone has to assume is cheating and they’re getting off the hook here.

Arizona State is taking one for the team.

College football has plenty of dirty programs and a lot that are at the top of the sport but the NCAA is apparently going to worry about a team that has had three 10-win seasons since 2000.

Either pay players or crack down on all the cheaters. No more turning blind eyes to the cash cows.
