29. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Safety. 877. Senior. Sean Mahone

Having a player with Sean Mahone’s resume on a list of underrated players is a bit disheartening, but it’s time to set the record straight. Mahone is a productive and integral piece to the West Virginia Mountaineers defense.

Over the past four seasons, the Liberty Township (OH) product has done it all for the Mountaineers. He’s racked up 139 career tackles, seven tackles-for-loss, six pass deflections, two sacks, two fumble recoveries, and one forced fumble.

Guys like Mahone don’t go on to have decade-long Pro Bowl careers in the NFL, but they do carve out a special place in the hearts of West Virginia fans.

No, he’s not a home-grown product, but he has given a lot to this program. And while his production may not jump off the screen, it’ll surely be felt the moment he leaves.

So there you have, the five most underrated Mountaineers of the 2021 season. Mahone. Brandon Yates. Nicktroy Fortune. Jared Bartlett. And Zach Frazier. Who did we underrate? What players should’ve made our list but didn’t? Be sure to let us know!
