How often do we talk about Georgia football landing an elite running back? It seems like the Bulldogs pick up a commitment or two from blue-chip running back prospects every year and that’s why they have to be considered “RBU” — or one of them.

The Bulldogs actually have a top-200 running back already committed to their 2022 class in Jordan James, but Kirby Smart is not content.

With a decision looming in about a month, Georgia is currently trending with Branson Robinson, the No. 3 running back in the 2022 class, and the No. 47 overall prospect. After recent crystal balls on 247Sports, Georgia now owns 85 percent of the predictions to Mississippi State’s 15 percent.

Imagine Georgia adding Robinson to its 2022 class along with James and having them combine with 2021 four-star signee and IMG Academy star Lovasea Carroll and 2020 four-stars Daijun Edwards and Kendall Milton. That creates one of the deepest backfields in the nation.

Five running backs, mostly ranked in the top-150, gracing the backfield following the Zamir White and James Cook era would be a huge win for Smart.

Almost a direct path to the NFL for any one of those guys.

And people wonder why Georgia is considered a haven for elite running backs.

Georgia football continues to make run game a priority

Every year, Georgia seems to add at least one elite running back as Smart has continued to make this position group a priority which is music to Bulldog fans’ ears.

Just take a look at each Smart (including 2016) class and the running backs that signed.

  • 2016: Brian Herrien, Elijah Holyfield
  • 2017: D’Andre Swift
  • 2018: Zamir White, James Cook
  • 2019: Kenny McIntosh
  • 2020: Daijun Edwards, Kendall Milton
  • 2021: Lovasea Carroll
  • 2022: Jordan James, Branson Robinson (potentially)

Yeah, this is RBU and the addition of Robinson is only going to further that narrative.
