Rutgers football recruiting has exploded under Greg Schiano
What do Ohio State, Penn State, and Rutgers football all have in common? No, it’s not just the fact that all three play in the same division, but rather that they’re the only Big Ten teams to own top 10 recruiting classes for 2022 currently.
Yes, you read that correctly, Rutgers has joined Ohio State and Penn State as the only Big Ten teams to be ranked in the top 10 in team rankings for the 2022 recruiting class.
After years of mediocrity and being the punching bag of the Big Ten, Rutgers now has a pulse and that’s all thanks to Greg Schiano and the new staff. He has shown that you can succeed in Piscataway and he might be the only coach to really have a good grasp of the program which is why he’s already experiencing early success.
Rutgers may have been just 3-6 in his first season back after stints in the NFL and as a college assistant, but Schiano was able to finally beat Michigan State, Purdue, Maryland and nearly took down Michigan, Nebraska, and Illinois. The Scarlet Knights were a few plays from 6-3.
This program is trending in a really good direction.
Rutgers football building a potentially elite 2022 class
Schiano has one of the best recruiting classes in the country which is actually wild to say after a 3-6 season and two years removed from having zero light at the end of the tunnel.
Top-100 quarterback Gavin Wimsatt is the crown jewel of the class and Jacob Allen and Anthony Johnson are both in the top 200 in the recruiting rankings. Amarion Brown and Samuel Brown are the remaining four-star commits in Rutgers’ 2022 class and the Scarlet Knights have 13 pledges with just one coming since the end of the dead period.
We can only imagine Schiano is going to keep getting his Plan A guys with official visits taking place and if the Scarlet Knights keep trending in this direction, the Big Ten East will be the best division in college football by a mile.
